Except in parades, however, the men and women who have kept America safe

He is the old guy bagging groceries at the supermarket - palsied now and
aggravatingly slow - who helped liberate a Nazi death camp and who
wishes all day long that his wife were still alive to hold him when the
nightmares come.

He is an ordinary and yet an extraordinary human being a person who offered some of his life's most vital years in the service of his country, and who sacrificed his ambitions so others would not have to sacrifice theirs.
He is a soldier and a savior and a sword against the darkness, and he is nothing more than the finest, greatest testimony on behalf of the finest, greatest nation ever known.

So remember, each time you see someone who has served our country, just lean over and say Thank You. That's all most people need, and in most cases it will mean more than any medals they could have been awarded or were awarded.Two little words that mean a lot, "THANK YOU".

To promote the Aqua Teen Hunger Force animated film, Cartoon Network hired ad reps Sean Stevens and Peter Berdovsky. The 2 men decided to hang electronic LED displays in several cities, each boasting a "Lite-Brite" depiction of one of the film's characters.

Citizens of Boston mistook the devices as explosives which caused the city to shut down major roads and bridges. Matters weren't helped any when — during a post-arrest press conference — the 2 men opted to discuss wacky 70s haircuts instead of the controversy.

McDonald's Tainted MP3 Players

In Japan — where even virtual pets have their own MP3 players — McDonald's ran a contest in which customers were eligible to win their very own MP3 device. After roughly 10,000 gadgets were handed out, customers discovered that each came bundled with 10 free songs and its very own QQPass trojan malware, capable of communicating user logins and passwords.

A software patch was dispersed and a recall was instituted — thereby ending McDonald's worst campaign since the Arch Deluxe.

With the release of its iPod line, Apple performed a rare feat in the corporate world: The company became hip. In May 2006 — facing Apple's overwhelmingly dominant market presence — SanDisk launched the "iDont" campaign, which portrayed iPod users as mindless sheep, donkeys, and chimps.

Immediately upon unloading, the melted juice poured from the truck, creating a syrupy tidal wave down Union Square and a massive headache for cleanup crews. LifeLock CEO Tempts Fate

The personal fraud protection company LifeLock guarantees the security of your identity under their employ. So much so that, in a nationwide ad, CEO Todd Davis posts his personal social security number on the side of a van — daring identity thieves to give it a shot.

Turns out, they did. No fewer than 25 motivated thieves stole Davis' social security number — with one successfully receiving a $500 loan. LifeLock maintains its diligence, claiming that for a nationwide ad, only one case of stolen identity isn't too bad. It doesn't advise posting your mom's maiden name on your car, however.

Sony's Sacrifice to God

When a company is said to emerge from a scandal "red-faced," rarely is it due to the errant splatter from a goat's decapitated head. Celebrating the PlayStation 2 release of the game God of War II, Sony threw a gala event in Athens, Greece.

In honor of the barbaric revelry found in the game, a goat carcass was brought in and attendees were invited to feast on fake entrails. Those who weren't privy to the unusual event were treated to a graphic photo of the centerpiece in the official Sony magazine. The company recalled the issues but garnered some pretty bad press in return.

General Motors Inspires Amateur Filmmaking

Three years before declaring Chapter 11, General Motors influenced a new wave of modern film auteurs. Tapping into that YouTube craze the young kids had been talking about, GM launched a website allowing users to create their own commercial about the Chevy Tahoe SUV and upload it for public view.

Apparently, GM hadn't realized that it bore an already unfavorable connotation, and the contest gave way to short films about global warming, the war in Iraq, or negative attacks against the auto's quality. Worse yet, almost a month went by before GM caught on.

KFC and Pepsi Underestimate Fan Frenzy

The allure of the free giveaway is usually proportional to the popularity of the product. So who wasn't expecting a slew of people clamoring for free KFC or Pepsi-sponsored Yankees tickets? Surprisingly, KFC and Pepsi.

After Oprah announced a KFC giveaway on her much-watched program, the food chain couldn't keep up with the lines of customers — which led to sit-ins and riots. But the agency in charge of Boston's location selected the Granary Burying Ground — current home to John Hancock, Paul Revere and Samuel Adams. Before a flood of shovels swept through the cherished site, Cadbury Schweppes ended the contest, but the contest forced owners to shutter the graveyard to prevent a zombie outbreak.

Dos Equis Angers Interesting Men

This giant corporate goodwill effort was the latest extension of the beer company's "Most Interesting Man" ad campaign featuring DJ Z-Trip. Attendees, who were promised a shuttle service that made the 100-mile round trip to and from Waterloo Park, were expecting a veritable cornucopia of rocking activities, such as "karate black belt demonstrations, participatory drum circles, an exotic reptile collection, sleight of hand tricks, international mohawk coiffeurists, bungee lessons, aqua slides, culinary entomologists, medieval weaponry, and a world-class car collection."

Most of the Dos Equis faithful ended up thoroughly screwed, however, since too many tickets were given out for too few spots, shuttles never turned up, and many were forced to loiter in the parking lot outside. At the end of the evening, the 800 lucky people who got in had a rollicking time — but they were largely drowned out by the seething gang of thousands who were turned away.

Shiner Brewery tour: I've been there once for the Ride To Shiner and never got to take the tour. Check the website for hours (heard they don't do tours on the weekend) & have a driver if you are gonna sample!

New Braunfels, Texas: JB just got back from here & said he loved it. Yes you can just got to float the river or hit up Schlitterbahn but I've heard there are other cool things there.

Blanco Real Ale tour: I heard this is also a pretty cool brewery tour that has tours on the weekend. Again, don't take my word, check their site for hours.

Lockhart, Texas: I love me some BBQ & heard they have the best BBQ here. When I've passed through it reminds me of the town in the Drew Barrymore movie "Homefries".

Enchanted Rock: I have no idea which way to go to get here but I'vd heard it's cool. Might want to skip it if it's 107 degrees!

Perdinales Falls: recommended by a listener, again I have no idea which direction to go to get here.

Blue Bell tour: I pass it all the time coming or going to Houston on 290. I bet it's pretty freaken cool if you love ice cream (great for this summer heat).

Fredericksburg, Texas: I've been there twice (once for peaches & the other time to stop & pee @ the Jeep dealership). Heard there are some pretty cool Bed & Breakfast joints there.

Natural Bridge Caverns: I see the billboard all the time & curiosity is killing me. Maybe I'll check it out this summer.

Marble Falls: I used to give this town a hard time until I visited it last winter...great time. This time I want to take advantage of the water this summer!

For the past couple years I've bought my Dad season tickets to UTEP football games. This has been one of the best gifts cause he'd only go to games if he fell into tickets. Now he has the option to go to all the games and take a friend if he wants!

A NICE GRILL...
This is a gift that you could easily get for Dad from the family and everyone pitch. You know your Father has an old charcoal grill from the 70's that he'll never replace unless you take it upon yourself. You can go anywhere now to get a good gas grill. Lastly, get a gas grill cause charcoal takes to damn long!

GOOD POCKET KNIVE...
Dad has his Old Timer from 20 some years ago and it's time to step up to a Gerber or Benchmade from REI in Austin. This is something he'll never get on his own, DO IT FOR HIM!

A NEW CELL PHONE...
This is another item that Dad will never replace on his own & will hold onto it until it doesn't work. Great deals right now, most likely you can get it for FREE with your service provider since Dad won't want anything to fancy!

ANYTHING THAT SAYS CRAFTSMAN ON IT...
Remember when you were a kid & Dad hated you to used his tools? Remember when you lost some of them? Repay him by going to Sears & getting anything that says "CRAFTSMAN" on it!

GOOD SUNGLASSES...
Dad will always wear what's around and not spend any $$$ on nice glasses cause he'll lose them most of the time. Why not take the chance and get Dad some cool aviators...he'll love them but beware, he may lose them!

ONE DAY COMPUTER CLASS...
Okay, you know your parents want to enjoy the web and all it offers so why not give them a one day class on surfing the web, etc. from your local electronics store. If your local store doesn't offer something like this try you community college. Trust me, find something cause you don't have the time to sit there & show them everything!

SLIDE SCANNER...
I remember as a kid going through my Dad's stuff and finding a ton of slides from the 60's & 70's. You can't hang those on the wall but what you can do is get him a slide scanner that transfers those slides to a jpeg or better yet print them out for him!

GIFTCARDS FOR THEIR FAVORITE PLACES TO EAT...
My Dad eats at the same places all the time. He loves him some Luby's and a gift card to there and/or some of his other favorite places would be a nice surprise.

MOUNT ANY AWARDS, ETC. FOR THEM...
My Dad just found out that he was awarded a pretty cool award in Vietnam and he hasn't claimed it yet. I want to track it down and get it mounted & framed for him.

Ok, so on my previous post I was a bit hard on him. I do have to say that he picked the best girl out of the two. She seems to care about him and not just doing it for the game (we all know that he's really looking for love...freaken baby).

Side note: Did you see when his son ran out he ran to Dad only & not her? She tried so hard for the group hug & got denied.

Another side note: I hope he didn't have his cell phone on him when he jumped in the pool at the end of the show.

Since hitting 100,000 miles on my car things have started to fall apart. I'd take my car to the dealer but I feel I've used up all my favors with them so I went to Manny, Moe & Jack. I left my car for over a week while I was out of town for the Holiday's and after paying $1500.00 she runs like a brand new car! Yeah, I'm not happy about the price but it was a lot done to it. All I'm saying is people always bitch about what a bad job so & so has done and this time I'm just trying to say thanks. 6. Be a bit more "green". I'm gonna stop using paper & plastic since I bought my UTEP Miner shopping bags in El Paso. Also, cut down on electricity when I'm not at home. Come time it gets warmer I'll ride my bike more around the neighborhood & work. Lastly, I'm gonna try to recycle more.

5. Don't spend money on things I don't really need. In other words, be a bigger tight-ass than I already am.

4. Buy all generic products. They're just as good as namebrand stuff and if you have a problem with the generic label than save the old bottle.

3. Completely cut out fried foods, cheese & cut down on bread & tortillas. Yes, I've fallen off the wagon a bit but I'm good, I'll get r dun.

2. Shave every three days & dress better to work. This is carried over from last year & I think I broke it on the first week.

1. Be a little bit nicer & have a better attitude in 2009.

I was in El Paso for the Holidays & ran into and old friend I hadn't seen in years. We hung out that night, had a beer & it seemed all good. The person left the bar before I did and on my way out I noticed a business card on the floor that looked familiar. It was the one I had given them to keep in touch. I felt sick & the booze made it a worse feeling, almost like someone punched you in the gut. This person doesn't want anything to do with me obviously. Has this ever happen to you? I don't wish it on anyone.

By no means am I being creepy but there are some really bad ones out there and my favorite was the tail end of a sort of late night talk show rip off called NNS?
